Mathews and Danforth Winners at East Bay

The first night of a two-day special event took place on a cold Friday night with the pits filling with Late Models, Outlaw 4s and Gagel’s Auto Parts open Wheel Modifieds.
The night started with qualifying for the NeSmith Dirt Late Model Series. The field of 60 cars was whittled down to 47 after 13 drivers were sidelined for tire infractions. Those drivers were allowed to join the heat races after meeting muster. Complete details for Late Model action can be found at www.nesmithracing.com.
In local racing, heat winner Jeff Mathews, who was also competing in the Late Models, led the Open Wheel Modifieds wire to wire. Roger Crouse finished second with a smoking race car, ahead of Bruce Harvey, Shane Burrow and heat winner Buzzie Reutimann.
The Outlaw 4s held their next-to-last event of the season as Brian Danforth and Cecil Martin swapped the lead in the early stages. Danforth took command to grab his fourth feature win in his rookie season. Martin claimed second with Matt Haynes in third. Billy Howard and Stephen Hohlbaugh rounded out the top five. Danforth and Haynes were heat winners.
ASA sanctioned racing resumes at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday, Dec. 12, 2009 at 6:30pm. Three B mains will complete the lineup for the 100-lap $10,000 to win NeSmith Late Model Crate World Championships. Local divisions in action include Street Stocks, motostats.com 4 Cylinder Bombers and Dirt Daubers.
