BARBERVILLE, FL- Saturday, September 11th will be a very special night at Volusia Speedway Park, as racers, fans, and speedway staff, will pause to remember those that we lost on that date in 2001 during the World Trade Center attack. And while we gather to remember, we will also celebrate our freedom with the truly American sport of stock car racing, featuring competition from the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, and a $500 to win feature race for the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks. The Daytona Antique Auto Racing Association (DAARA) will also be on hand to display and race their vintage race cars.

Last Saturday night the fans saw a competitive field of top Late Models scramble after a $2500 check, as John Kellum caught and passed Mark Whitener on the final lap to seal a spectacular victory. This Saturday it is back to regular points racing for the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models, but don’t think for one minute that means there is less at stake. While Joe Kump remains on top of the points standings, his foothold on the top spot is eroding fast. Donnie Chappell has made steady improvements throughout the season, grabbing a hard fought victory recently and finishing 8th in last week’s competition. Kump was not so lucky last time out, coming home in the 12th spot and thus allowing Chappell to gain more ground. A mere 25 points separates the two, and with the hot shots who were after the extra cash absent it will be a head to head rumble for every point Chappell and Kump can muster.

The last two times out for the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division the fans have seen Victory Lane celebrations, but the official results have been in doubt for at least 48 hours after the racing ended. Aaron Barsness has a solid hold on the top spot in the points race, but Shaun Daugharty has been clawing his way toward Barsness’ perch despite the task looking all but impossible. But Stanton Mills has stood in Daugharty’s way for two weeks running, and each time Daugharty has challenged Mills’ wins in tech. The net result of that has been a draw, as Daugharty gained a win and Mills was disqualified the first time around, and this time Mills’ victory stood while Daugharty ended up losing his points and winnings for the night. Obviously both racers are not on each other’s Christmas mailing lists this year, and both will be taking the green flag again this Saturday night. The tech man may want to stock up on energy drinks in preparation for whatever outcome may come on the track, and possibly later as well.

Five hundred dollars will be waiting for the winner of this week’s Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stock feature, and Mike Tovet will most likely be shooting for a repeat of last weekend’s outcome. Tovet and Matt Schell benefited from Chad Scranton’s flat tire on the final lap, as they finished first and second respectively and left Scranton to limp to the checkers in third place. Scranton has been the man to beat recently, and before last Saturday only one other racer had managed to do it.

Meanwhile points leader Scott Mooers wound up having a very unpleasant meeting with the turn one barrier that sent him to the pits on a hook for the night, and put yet another dent in his push to remain near the top of the UMP national points rankings. Scranton will be looking to redeem himself with a victory, while Mooers will have his machine back together and will be looking for his redemption as well.

And history buffs will get yet another shot at seeing the DAARA cars hit the clay at Volusia Speedway Park this Saturday, as vintage race car owners will come from all over the region to race at the south’s fastest half mile. DAARA’s last appearance at VSP proved a little too racy for some, as they wound up damaging their machines against Volusia Speedway’s unforgiving barrier walls. But those accidents go to show that the DAARA cars are not out there turning laps to show off and that the car owners are really racing, and that these old machines still have a lot of speed and competitive fire left in them.

As we remember and reflect on September 11th, Volusia Speedway Park will salute all of our military and emergency responders with free admission this Saturday night with proper I.D. The grandstand gates will open at 5:30PM with heat races scheduled to begin at 7:30. For more information on scheduled events at the south’s fastest half mile, including the latest schedule revisions and directions to the track, please visit www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net.

BARBERVILLE, FL- Volusia Speedway Park was back in action on Saturday night after a summer break as the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Labor Day Late Model Shootout headlined an exceptional night of high speed thrills, with $2500 going to the winner of the event. In addition to a strong field of top late models, fans also got a heavy dose of excitement for the Budweiser Modifieds, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, and the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks.

The 30 lap Labor Day Late Model Shootout had the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models chasing a $2500 check and Mark Whitener, for practically the entire race as “The Magic Man” rocketed to the front and drove away from the rest of the field. Try as he might, “The Locomotive” Johnny Collins could only watch Whitener pull away as the laps ticked off, and Lawton Minchew saw his time in the front runners expire with a spin in turn 4.

There were also some contenders who began the race mired in traffic due to less than appealing starting positions, and as those racers made their way forward the complexion of things at the front began to change. Whitener remained in a world to himself as he blew past the stragglers at the back of the pack, and Ivedent Lloyd slipped from the top three to the top five as the track slicked off, and John Kellum quietly worked his way forward, almost camouflaged by the host of lapped cars that were complicating matters for the leaders. Kellum sneaked into the top five virtually unnoticed, and then into the top three as Whitener’s lead eroded thanks to Labor Day weekend race traffic.

Once Kellum cleared Johnny Collins and set his sights on Whitener, it was a race against the leader and the clock for the new second place runner as the laps quickly approached 30. Kellum caught Whitener with two to go, then made the winning pass in turn one of the last lap to seal a thrilling victory as Mark Whitener drove to the scale house in second place. Johnny Collins hung on to take the third spot and Ivedent Lloyd claimed fourth, as Jackie Nosbisch charged to the checkers in the fifth spot.

As the Budweiser Modifieds lined up for their feature race, many of them were still licking their wounds from Friday night’s brutal affair at the opposite end of the Ocala National Forest, and many were out to right the wrongs of the previous night. Both Garret Stewart and Jeff Mathews failed to complete all of the laps at Ocala, but at least their cars were in relatively one piece while others were not so fortunate. Kyle Bronson was coming off of a victory at Ocala, and was looking for another at Volusia’s fast half mile.

Garret Stewart led from the pole but Mathews snatched the lead away on the first lap. Meanwhile quite a tussle developed between Johnny Collins, Kyle Bronson, Wayne Hammond, and Jamie Carter, as all of them battled for position throughout the race. The one constant was Mathews and Stewart running first and second until a late race caution changed everything with only one lap remaining, bunching up the field and leaving a one lap dash to the checkers.

Stewart had been caught napping on an earlier restart that allowed Mathews to maintain the lead, but this time Stewart was all over “The Repo Man” as the green flew. But so were Johnny Collins and Kyle Bronson, and as that wad of cars rocketed into turns one and two, Mathews was able to hold off Stewart despite the 67 machine having inside position on the 33. So Jeff Mathews collected another victory as Garret Stewart shook his head over being so close and yet so far away. Johnny Collins held on for third place while Kyle Bronson and Wayne Hammond rounded out the top five.

It took days to determine winner of the last Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division feature race at Volusia Speedway Park thanks to a technical issue that had to be answered via communication with a manufacturer, but in the end Shaun Daugharty picked up a much needed and appreciated win. Aaron Barness still has a firm grip on the points lead, but Daugharty intends to make a race out of it, so as the green flag waved and Chris Day led the field into turn one, Daugharty was right behind him and on a mission.

Stanton Mills began the race in the third row of the starting grid, but had himself in position to overtake Chris Day on a restart on lap 4. That left Daugharty running in the third spot until he was able to also overtake Day, but by that time Danny Vogel had joined the fray at the front and kept Daugharty in third place with a pass for second. Stanton Mills would lead to the checkers with Vogel behind him and Shaun Daugharty following, but once again that is not the end of the story.

A protest was launched, sending both the 57 of Stanton Mills and the 00 of Shaun Daugharty to quarantine and on to the tech shed for a long night of dismantling, measuring, and inspecting. As of Sunday morning no official determination has been forthcoming, as tech officials again will have to research information in order to reach a fair and correct decision. that leaves Stanton mills as the unofficial winner, with Danny Vogel in second place followed by Shaun Daugharty in third. Chris Day is fourth for the moment and Aaron Barsness will wait for news from fifth place.

Chad Scranton has become a dominant force in the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks since mid season, and so far the only driver who has been able to dispute that has been Philip Brown, and with Brown not behind the wheel of the 13 and Scranton starting on the outside of the first row, most everyone expected to see Scranton get another first place trophy. But Scranton’s partner on the first row was Mike Tovet, and Tovet apparently never got the memo stating that Scranton was virtually unbeatable.

There race quickly became a battle between Tovet and Scranton, with Scott Mooers and Matt Schell having an equally tough struggle over the second spot. And on lap 14 the fight between Schell and Mooers got a bit physical, as there was contact between the two on the front stretch resulting in Schell’s 57 bouncing off of the wall and back into Mooers’ 10 car. That sent Mooers flying into the barrier in turn one, trashing the second of his race cars in two nights after a violent encounter with the wall at Ocala the night before.

Matt Schell would continue on to challenge the leaders as Scranton had gotten the better of Tovet, but with the restart leaving a one lap sprint to the finish, Tovet had one last shot at Scranton’s dominance. As the three cars rocketed down the frontstretch on the restart, there was contact that punctured a tire on Scranton’s machine. Tovet assumed the lead with Schell right on his bumper, but managed to hold Matt Schell at bay to win the race. Scranton would limp to the scales in third place, while Robert Donaly claimed fourth and Raymond Wheeler finished fifth.

Volusia Speedway Park will return to action on September 11th as we pause to remember the events on that date in 2001. All emergency first responders including police, fire, and rescue, and all members of the military, will be admitted free of charge with proper I.D. and will see racing action from the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks as they battle for a $500 check. In addition, The Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models and the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, will return and be joined by the hard charging 4 Cylinder Challengers, plus the popular DAARA vintage cars. For more information on upcoming events at the south’s fastest half mile, please visit us at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net for the latest schedule updates.

by VSP Media

BARBERVILLE, FL- Volusia Speedway Park returns to action this Saturday night, September 4th, with the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Labor Day Late Model Shootout, plus further excitement from the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, the Budweiser Modifieds, and the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks. With two weeks spent away from the south’s fastest half mile, the racers are more than ready to feel the rush of dirt slinging, high speed action as the 2010 racing season officially moves into fall.

And while the racers may be more than ready to take on each other and Volusia’s high speed half mile, some may have a need to shake a few cobwebs loose and do some final tweaking on their machines before Saturday’s events. Volusia Speedway Park will open for practice on this Friday, September 3rd, with hot laps by division from 6PM until 9PM, offering the racers that chance, plus giving them a shot at some seat time as well.

When the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models hit the clay for the Labor Day Late Model Shootout, they will be chasing a $2500 check made out to the winner in addition to the impressive first place trophy. Money talks, and racers tend to crank it up a notch or two when the potential for a big payday comes their way. Donnie Chappell has already cranked things up, grabbing a win on August 14th and narrowing the gap between himself and Joe Kump in the points race. Kump’s less than stellar outing on that same night came in the form of debris on the front stretch that punctured a tire, so the Lake Helen racer will be looking for a measure of redemption while chasing the big payout. But other racers will certainly be after the money as well, and may complicate the course to Victory Lane for Volusia’s points leaders.

Jamie Carter has seized control of the Budweiser Modifieds points race, and with the number of races left dwindling, Jeff Mathews finds himself in the role of second best this year. While Carter may be just out of reach at this point, Mathews is not, as Kent Corbin holds down the third spot behind Mathews. Jeff Mathews is one tough customer, and despite his role as second fiddle he certainly can play a mean solo or two in Victory Lane, and has done so. Larry Burkins has also tasted victory, and the agony of a final turn defeat, and will also be a factor in the outcome of Saturday’s race.

The Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division has seen Shaun Daugharty rise to the top, then take a tumble as misfortunes came his way midway through the season. And yet as the season exits summer and heads into fall, points leader Aaron Barsness finds himself mirror driving as he leads the way and Daugharty fights to gain ground. Barsness had a forgettable night on August 14th while Daugharty had a great one, and if that trend continues things will possibly get tighter at the top.

There is no disputing who is in control of the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stock points battle, but Scott Mooers is no longer the dominant force when the division goes racing on Saturday nights. Chad Scranton has found the secret to outrunning Mooers and has done so consistently, but Scranton has his own nemesis in the form of Philip Brown. Brown has climbed into the number 13 Thunder Stock when the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks were not on the schedule, and habitually getting the better of Scranton. No matter what Scranton and Brown do, Mooers will be the champion this season, but Mooers cannot help but worry that his domination of the division is coming to a close, as other racers continually raise the performance bar.

Volusia Speedway Park will open the grandstand gate and welcome back the fans at 5:30PM on Saturday evening, with heat races scheduled to begin at 7:30. Fans are reminded that some rescheduling has resulted as weather delayed events are being made up, so please check the updated season schedule at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net each week before coming to the races.

Merritt Island, FL (August 20, 2010) Florida’s newest Dirt Track website is looking for sponsors and for drivers.

“I am in the process now of trying to set up driver profiles for the website, www.floridadirttracknews, where potential sponsors can find potential drivers to sponsor. If possible, and that all depends on how badly the drivers want help, I am asking that they send me a small bio of their racing history with a few photos to put up on the website,” said Publisher Jane Smith.

“Then when sponsors look at the website, they can see and read about the great dirt drivers here in Florida and hopefully help one of them. Even if it is only gas for the weekend or a tire or two, anything does and will help the driver and the sponsor will get his name out there at their hometracks so their sponsor. It is a win-win situation for both.”

“Since acquiring www.dirttracknews.com, Florida Dirt Track News has been getting more than 650 hits per day. Florida Dirt Track News covers all of Florida’s dirt tracks with stories, race results, and a photo gallery of the weekend’s racing action that the track photographers are kind enough to send in to me.”

“With today’s economy and the state that some tracks are in, it is hard to race for sure. But there are still racers and still potential sponsors in the stands that may have a few bucks to help out a driver and hopefully by doing this, it will help both.”

“For $25.00, the bios and photos will be put up for a year on the website for everyone to see. And if the driver comes up with a win, he/she will be highlighted for the week on the site.”

“Florida Dirt Track News is still looking for sponsors also for the site. The site has grown each and every day since last year when it was started. It is a great place to advertise your parts, services, etc. for the dirt track driver. Advertising rates are very reasonable and you can contact racingjls@aol.com for rates.”

Florida Dirt Track News also offers National Dirt news from the World of Outlaws to the All Star Circuit of Champions. And in the near future, it will also offer news from other Southern states dirt tracks from Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana, Arkansas, South and North Carolina.

Now we cover Southern Raceway, Northwest Florida Speedway, Hendry County Motorsports Park, North Florida Speedway, Ocala Speedway, Volusia Speedway Park, East Bay Raceway Park, and Putnam County Speedway which is closed at the present time but hopefully reopening in 2011.

For more information on getting your bio up or advertising, please e-mail racingjls@aol.com. And be sure and check out www.floridadirttracknews.com. It is the fastest growing dirt track site in the Florida.

BARBERVILLE, FL- As the summer heats up and the Florida rainy season kicks into overdrive, Volusia Speedway Park is taking a much needed break over the next couple of weeks. That time off will allow our racers to make repairs and adjustments to their machines in preparation for the last few weeks of the racing season, and will give our hard working staff some time to rest. That means that Volusia Speedway Park will be quiet and dark on August 21st as originally scheduled, and again on August 28th for an extra week of summer break. The racers will return to the track on Friday, September 3rd, for an open practice session from 6 through 9 PM, and racing will return the following night, Saturday, September 4th.

Labor Day Weekend traditionally signals the end of summer, but at Volusia Speedway Park it brings the annual Labor Day Late Model Shootout. The Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models will be going after a $2500 check made payable to the winner, and that will assure that a top quality field of top dirt late model racers will be on hand to go after the money. In addition to the Late Model Shootout, fans will see more action from the Budweiser Modifieds, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, and the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks.

Thanks to weather and other factors, Volusia Speedway Park has made some adaptations to the remainder of the 2010 racing schedule. That means fans and racers should refer to the schedule posted at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net, as it reflects the latest updates. For example, VSP will be closed on three Saturday nights where racing was originally scheduled. Those dates are August 28th, September 25th, and October 9th. VSP will also be closed as planned on October 23rd for the Autumn break.

One event that remains unchanged is the “9-11 Remembered Night” scheduled for September 11th. While it will be a night of ceremony and remembrance, fans will see a $500 to win Amsoil Thunder Stock Feature, as well as action from the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, and the 4 Cylinder Challengers. All active military will be admitted free of charge, as well as all fire and rescue first responders and law enforcement. Proper ID will be required for free admission.

Fans and racers will also discover that some events that were lost to bad weather are now rescheduled. The 3rd Annual Wiener Nationals are rescheduled for September 18th, where up to 30 Dachshunds will race on the Volusia Speedway frontstretch. In addition to “hot” dog racing, the $1000 to win Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Spectacular that rained out on the same night is also rescheduled for September 18th as well. The Top Gun Sprint Car Series will also be racing that night, plus the Budweiser Modifieds and the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks.

As the 2010 racing season winds down there are many great events still to come at Volusia Speedway Park, including the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series Fall Nationals scheduled for October 16th, and the UDLMCS returns for their Championship Finals on November 6th. Again, fans and racers should check the schedule at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net for any changes, especially if weather effects anymore events after the summer break ends.

BARBERVILLE, FL- Scattered showers peppered many areas around Volusia Speedway Park throughout the afternoon on Saturday, but after a rainout the previous weekend the speedway managed to escape with a few near misses, but no actual rainfall until after dark. That opened the door for the Budweiser Modifieds to chase a $1000 cash carrot, and for fans to see action from the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks, and the 4 Cylinder Challengers.

Unfortunately for the Volusia County kids who will find themselves back in classrooms on Monday morning, their chance to fulfill a need for speed was washed out by a pop up shower that hit the track right at intermission, and which sent the track staff scrambling to get the program moving as more showers loomed off to the west on radar. Those other showers fell apart before arriving at the track, thus allowing the feature races to run as scheduled, and as things played out many points leaders might have preferred that it continue to rain.

Jamie Carter still held a firm grip on the Budweiser Modified points lead as their $1000 to win feature got underway, but the man who supposedly was going to collect the cash was on the front row and wasted zero time in taking control, while Carter began what became a forgetable night at the races with a last place finish. Any betting person might have put it all on Jeff Mathews at that point, but Wayne Hammond would have taken their money. Hammond ripped past Mathews before the halfway point and held the lead for several laps, with Mathews challenging him at every turn and finally wrestling the lead back from Hammond within the final 6 laps. But with two laps to go Hammond saw an opening and pounced on it on the backstretch, passing Mathews for good to seal the win. Wayne Hammond enjoyed the moment in Victory Lane, plus collected a $100 cash bonus from Astor Recycling on top of his $1000 paycheck, while Jeff Mathews drove to his hauler in second place. The third place went to a hard charging Garrett Stewart, who after suffering every sort of setback imaginable throughout the season, grabbed a heat race win and performed exceptionally well in the feature event. Larry Burkins fought hard to place fourth, while Kent Corbin followed in fifth place.

Donnie Chappell has paid his dues to the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models this racing season, gradually improving and gaining ground on the points leaders. And as the rest of the field took the green flag on Saturday night, Chappell was third in the points and poised to close the gap between himself and points leader Joe Kump. And with David Clegg, who in was second in the points race, not present to race, Chappell was effectively in second place by simply taking the green.Lawton Minchew grabbed the early lead, but Chappell snatched it from him after a first lap restart and held it virtually the entire race. Meanwhile Kump had problems of his own, running over a piece of debris on the front stretch under caution and cutting down his right rear tire. In the rush to get a new tire on and get back to the race before the restart, his crew apparently put a left side tire on the right, leaving him limping on low air pressure and unable to catch the race leaders.

Minchew would briefly pull ahead of Chappell as they dealt with traffic in the final laps, but Donnie Chappell prevailed to score the well deserved win, and collect the night’s second $100 bonus from Astor Recycling. Lawton Minchew followed in second place, while Jason Kimball placed third. Andy Schell and Bobby Richardson rounded out the top five finishers.

The Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division saw a Chinese Fire Drill of sorts play out on the frontstretch before the green flag could wave in their feature race, as points leader Aaron Barsness developed problems with his number 11 machine and came to a stop. Teammate Scott Lagasse pulled alongside and the drivers quickly switched race cars, leaving Lagassee to be unselfishly towed to the pits in Barsness’ 11 car while Barsness went to the rear of the field in Lagasse’s number 22. Barsness would pick his way through the field and challenge for the lead in the final laps before the 22 car succumbed to damage and mechanical problems and left the race.

Matt McGillivray was in the early battle for the lead until he spun exiting turn two and was penalized to the rear of the field on the restart. That opened a door for Shaun Daugharty to make some moves as he took the lead, but he failed to hold off a hard charging Stanton Mills who snatched the lead away midway through the race. Mills held off Barsness’ late challenge to finish first, as Shaun Daugharty followed him under the checkers. Steve Shead had an impressive run to finish in the third spot with Paul Shead right behind him, and Collin Wright rounding out the top five. However, those results remain “unofficial” until further notice, as post race tech inspection turned up some issues that require further review. Those issues must be resolved after consultation with manufacturers, so official results will be posted sometime in the coming week.

Problems for points leaders persisted on Saturday as Casey Feaster struggled in the 4 Cylinder Challenger feature, fighting to salvage an 8th place finish. With weather cancellations and schedule changes effectively ruling out any real chance for Tony Laporta to defend his 2009 championship, Laporta would have to prove his superiority by winning and that meant catching three tough racers who were battling for the lead. Sonny Espy and Davey Wolf took turns with the early lead while Denica Hetznecker chased them in the third spot, but Laporta weeded his way past all of them.

Late in the race things strung out and left ample space between the top four cars as Tony Laporta led the way. That turned out to be a saving grace for Davy Wolf, who saw his oil pressure dropping and felt the car begin to run sour in the final laps. While Laporta was winning the race, Wolf’s engine grenaded in turn four and he coasted to the checkers in second place while Denica Hetznecker placed third behind Wolf’s smoke screen. Sonny Espy was the fourth place finisher and Dustin Childress drove Nathan Rhoades’ 51 car to fifth place.

There was a time earlier in the 2010 racing season at VSP where the sight of Scott Mooers’ 10 car on the pole of a Amsoil Thunder Stock race meant that the winner’s check could be signed over before the green was waved, but not anymore. And on Saturday night Mooers led the race from the pole for only three laps before Philip Brown drove the number 13 machine past him and brought Chad Scranton along behind him. From that point Mooers was forced to watch as Scranton challenged Brown with everything he had, but Mooers was unable to join in the fight.

Scranton’s efforts paid off midway through the race as he got past Brown for the lead, but Brown quickly recovered and repassed Scranton on the following lap, and rebuffed all future challenges. Philip Brown scored the win as Chad Scranton followed for a close second place. Scott Mooers was the third place finisher while Wally Douglass claimed a respectable fourth place and Robert Donaly was fifth.Volusia Speedway Park is taking some well deserved time off over the next couple of weekends as the Florida rainy season peaks and the racers need time to rest and make repairs. Racing returns to the south’s fastest half mile on Saturday, September 4th, as the Labor Day Shootout arrives for the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram Late Models. Fans will also see action from the Budweiser Modifieds, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, and the Amsoil Synthetic Lubricants Thunder Stocks.

Weather and other factors have created some schedule changes for Volusia Speedway Park over the remainder of the 2010 racing season, and fans are urged to check the updated schedule at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net before trekking to the track.

BARBERVILLE, FL- Volusia Speedway Park goes “Back to School” this Saturday night as area kids get ready to return to their classrooms after their summer break, but before that happens they will get one last blast of summer fun with kids’ bike races on the frontstretch of the south’s fastest half mile. And while the kids will fulfill their need for speed at intermission, race fans will see exciting action from the Budweiser Modifieds as they tangle in a $1000 to win challenge race. Other action will be provided by the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Late Models, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, the Amsoil Thunder Stocks, and the 4 Cylinder Challengers.

Fans can do something positive for their community and save some money in the process this Saturday, as Volusia Speedway Park will give a $2 discount on grandstand admission to any fans who donate school supplies. VSP employees will collect the donated items and will pass them along to be distributed to underprivileged kids at Manatee Elementary School in Orange City. Fans can donate anything from back packs to pens, pencils, paper, notebooks, folders, and more. Volusia Speedway’s racers are also encouraged to donate and participate in the effort.

Jamie Carter has got a solid lock on the points lead as the Budweiser Modifieds return to action on Saturday night, but with a $1000 to win cash carrot dangling in front of the competitors, Carter could be in for some tough competition in this race. Missing a Budweiser Modified feature earlier this summer has left Jeff Mathews trailing Carter by 135 points, but Mathews is capable of beating anyone on any night, especially when there is extra cash involved. Kent Corbin and Larry Burkins have both posted some solid performances lately, and could be ready to ascend to a win as well.

After leading the points chase for the first half of this racing season, David Clegg has been in catch up mode ever since an accident earlier this year forced him into a backup machine. Joe Kump will be on top of the points heap when the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Late Models hit the track this Saturday night, but David Clegg is still just 59 points out and has his backup car performing like a champ. Meanwhile Donnie Chappell has been clawing his way up the ladder toward the points leaders and is posting some very impressive finishes. Chappell is only 7 points shy of knocking Clegg down to third place in the points standings, and is just 66 points out of first place. Should Kump or Clegg have a bad night, Chappell will be poised to take full advantage of their misfortune.

The Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division is still dominated by Aaron Barsness, who holds the points lead and is tough to beat in each feature race. But after losing the points lead to Barsness earlier in the summer, Shaun Daugharty is on a mission to recover what he lost, and take no prisoners in the process. Unfortunately for Daugharty, that mission had a setback the last time out, but persistence will be the key to Daugharty’s success in chasing down Barsness before the season ends. The $1000 to win race that was rained out last weekend will be made up on September 18th, so racers and fans should be sure to mark that date on their calendars.

While Scott Mooers may be dominating the points standings, he is not dominating the Amsoil Thunder Stocks when they hit the clay each Saturday night. The guy winning the races has been Chad Scranton, whose rivalry with Mooers has kept the fans attention for a couple of months now. But Scranton is certainly not unbeatable as Philip Brown demonstrated while behind the wheel of David Whitt’s machine, and Luke Sadler has put together some solid outings as of late and may be ready to second the motion put forth by Brown. Mooers may be too far out of reach for Sadler to catch him, but Scranton has the same problem with Sadler. The huge gaps in the points standings give drivers like Sadler and Scranton a “nothing to lose” situation, and that feeds their desire to keep Mooers behind them in each week’s races.

Volusia’s 4 Cylinder Challenger points battle is led by Casey Feaster, who has had a fast car all season, but has also had problems that have held him back and made his trek to the top that much harder. Feaster holds an 111 point advantage over Tony Laporta, who has done the math and knows what he has to do in order to take the points championship trophy away from Feaster. But after a rainout last weekend, Laporta now has one less race in which to make his math add up, and Feaster has found new determination and focus in recent weeks. Meanwhile others like James Sullivan and Larry Langston have come on strong at this point in the season, and are a threat to beat both Feaster and Laporta to the checkers.

The grandstand gate will open at 5:30 this Saturday night, and fans are reminded to bring their school supply donations for a $2 discount. And as weather and other factors come into play, fans should refer to www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net for up to date schedule information, plus news and announcements about make up dates and times for events postponed by rain.

Wieners Are No Match For Nature At Volusia
by VSP Media

BARBERVILLE, FL- Although everyone connected with Volusia Speedway Park was wishing hard for good weather for Saturday night, nature failed to pay attention and peppered the area with multiple showers and thunderstorms throughout the day. And after the speedway was hit with the second round of rain at about 3PM in the afternoon, race officials decided that to attempt to race was only asking for trouble. There were too many storms on radar with high potential of hitting the track, and the surface was already on the verge of being too wet to salvage anyway.

So with the postponement of racing announced, VSP management immediately began working on schedule changes in order to make up at least some of the rained out events. No decision has been announced for making up the 3rd Annual Wiener Nationals dog races, but the $1000 to win Taylor Racing Products Sportsman race will be made up on September 18th. That night will feature the $1000 to win race, plus the Top Gun Sprint Car Series, and Volusia’s own Budweiser Modifieds and Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks.

According to VSP management, more adaptations to the previously posted racing schedule will be made as circumstances warrant, so racers and fans should be sure to double check the schedule posted at www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net for changes as those become finalized. VSP Media will also announce changes to the racing schedule on an “as needed” basis.

Volusia Speedway Park will be back in action on Saturday, August 14th with “Back To School Night” and five divisions of exciting racing competition. Fans will see the Daytona Dodge Chrysler Jeep Late Models, the Budweiser Modifieds, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, the Amsoil Thunder Stocks, plus the 4 Cylinder Challengers.

OCALA, FL- The historic Ocala Speedway has one more week of fast paced action this Friday night before the scheduled summer break, with the Late Models, the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks, the Mini Stocks, and the Gladiators, set to do battle on the southeast’s toughest 3/8ths mile. The summer break means that the racers will have at least three weeks off to prepare their machines and themselves for the remainder of the 2010 racing season, and this weekend’s races will be the final chance to make some moves before that happens.

After a long break that was dictated by scheduling and weather, the Late Model Division hit the clay at Ocala on July 23 as the 2009 Late Model Champion, J.O. Nobles, held off Ivedent Lloyd to grab an impressive win. But despite those heroics that had the crowd cheering loudly for the yellow number 18, Nobles is still playing second fiddle in the points standings while Mark Whitener retains the top spot. Whitener drove the Dave’s Towing number 58 to a third place finish on the 23rd, and will certainly be a factor this Friday night. And while Nobles lacks only 27 points in his effort to unseat Whitener, the 2010 Powell Memorial winner, Phillip Cobb, is only six points in back of Nobles going into this week’s feature event.

Michael Stalnaker has returned to the top ranks of the Amsoil V8 Thunder Stocks, and made a statement of his own last Friday by clawing his way from a 14th starting position to battle it out with Scott Mooers for a well deserved win. That makes two victories in a row for Stalnaker, who now has a 20 point advantage over Jerrid Bennett in the 2010 points standings. Bennett has fought his way through adversity lately just as Stalnaker did earlier in the season, and came away with a fifth place finish on Friday night which padded a 50 point advantage over EBD Racing’s Chris Shea, who also has had a run of misfortune lately. So as the summer break looms the question is whether Jerrid Bennett can fight his way back toward the top, and if he can, will Mike Stalnaker be able to continue his recent domination of the division?

After repeated setbacks, injuries, and other calamities that never allowed Keith Briggs to finish a Mini Stock race in 2010, the 19T machine rolled onto the clay at Ocala Speedway on July 23rd and put all of that in the past. Briggs not only finished the race, he won it convincingly, and served notice that while he may not be a threat to win a championship this season, he certainly can win any race that he enters no matter who controls the points. The 2009 Mini Stock Champion, Paul Combast, holds a 14 point advantage over Dan Kerr going into this week’s race, and hopes to build on that lead by finishing in front of the Kerr machines each week. But in order to do that he must also deal with Briggs, as the 19T will factor into the remaining races on the schedule.

Steven Johnson was on top of the Ocala Speedway Gladiator Division just a few weeks ago, but lousy luck and great racing from Casey Feaster ended his time at the top as Feaster had a week as the points leader at two top Florida dirt tracks. But last Friday Casey Feaster was missing from the field as a mechanical issue with his personal car left him stranded, and that allowed young Devin Walker to scramble his way into the top spot with a third place finish. Meanwhile Matt Shea was awarded the win last Friday after technical violations disqualified two finishers, and trails Walker by a mere 6 points going into this week’s race while Feaster plummeted to 50 points out of first. So will we have the third different points leader in three weeks of action? Not if Devin Walker can help it, but Matt Shea may have something to say about that as well.

The grandstand gates will open this Friday at 5PM, with heat racing scheduled for 8PM. For more information, please visit www.OcalaSpeedway.com, where the updated schedule should be posted within the next two to three weeks.

BARBERVILLE, FL- After a weekend off Volusia Speedway Park is back in action this Saturday night and officially welcoming the Dog Days of Summer with the 3rd Annual Wiener Nationals. This popular event pits “wiener dog” against “wiener dog, ” or Dachshund against Dachshund if one prefers, in a race to award the fastest dog in the pack. Fans will also see exciting action from Volusia’s Budweiser Modifieds, the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks, the Amsoil Thunder Stocks, and the 4 Cylinder Challengers.

Jamie Carter now has firm control over the points standings with the Budweiser Modifieds, as second place threat Jeff Mathews was absent from the starting field on July 24th after winning the feature event the previous weekend. Mathews’ absence allowed a rather large gap of 135 points to form between himself and Carter, while Kent Corbin is the next closest racer at 202 points out of first place. But Carter is far from home free yet, and anything can happen, especially to those who might least expect it. Even if Mathews were to be absent again, both Corbin and Larry Burkins are running well enough lately to possibly challenge Carter in a race to the checkers.

Shaun Daugharty showed up in a pristine race car on July 24th and left the track early with that same car wadded up on a trailer. Such has been the sort of luck that has befallen the early season points leader in the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman Division, as he enjoyed great success and then became the victim of lousy luck from mid season on. Meanwhile Aaron Barsness has taken advantage of Daugharty’s woes and taken over the points lead by 87points as Daugharty relentlessly continues to give chase, and if Daugharty can get his luck back on track he has a legitimate shot at regaining what he lost. With time off for some healing and repairs, Shaun Daugharty should be refreshed and recharged for another shot at Barsness this Saturday night.

Philip Brown remains in control of the points race with the Daytona Sportswear Street Stocks, but Tim Hughes still lurks at 70 points behind him despite some misfortunes as of late. Meanwhile, Cory Hupp is running strong, as is Mike Tovet and Bubba Christian, and though they may not in the lead pack of the points race, they certainly will have an effect on the numbers as the season continues. And if Hughes can avert further troubles and keep things tight between himself and Brown, he still has a solid shot at a season championship in 2010.

The one division where there may not be any hope of upsetting the status quo looks to be the Amsoil Thunder Stocks, where Scott Mooers has his boot firmly planted on the throat of the entire division. But while he holds a 168 point advantage over Luke Sadler in the points race, Mooers has not been winning races as Chad Scranton has made himself the man to beat each week. That is, until Philip Brown jumped into David Whitt’s race car and pulled an exciting upset on July 17th. Brown will most likely be sticking to the Street Stocks this weekend, so Scranton’s main concerns will be Scott Mooers and Luke Sadler.

Tony Laporta has reportedly done the math, and knows exactly what he must accomplish in order to beat Casey Feaster and defend his 2009 Challenger Championship. But at 111 points in front of Laporta, Casey Feaster got a hard lesson in Murphy’s Law last Friday night when a broken down tow vehicle kept him from making it to Ocala Speedway, and sent him plummeting down the points ladder there. That experience reminded Feaster of how fast it can all slip away, and thus refocused his determination to remain at the top at Volusia Speedway Park while he tries to regain what he lost at Ocala. Laporta is equally determined, so every race now becomes extremely important to both racers at this point in the season.

Fans can enter the Volusia Speedway Park grandstands at 5:30PM this Saturday night, and racing is scheduled to begin at 7:30PM. For more information on this week’s events, or to see the entire 2010 racing schedule, please visit www.VolusiaSpeedwayPark.net.
